The pricing for electricity supply contracts is based on price forward curves and consumption scenarios for a customer. We built a web application where our client's marketers and analysts can enter all the specific parameter and client data. The data is then sent to the client's Matlab pricing engine that does the complex math and returns the target price. Our top priority was great excel-like usability, which we delivered using the handsontable library. Another technical challenge was to setup a reliable interface to Matlab for parallel processing in a multiuser environment.
